Bhubaneswar, June 25: Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb has opposed the upcoming animated film Mahaprabhu Jagannath, set for release on July 10 ahead of Rath Yatra.
He said the trailer circulating online shows a fictional story of Lord Jagannath that is not aligned with Hindu scriptures.
The Maharaja, also head of the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee (SJTMC), stressed that depictions of the deity must follow authentic scriptural sources and traditions.
He warned that inaccurate portrayals could hurt the sentiments of devotees worldwide and urged a review by experts from the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) before release.
He has requested the filmmakers to postpone the release until approval is given, while the makers have not yet responded.
The issue has been highlighted in Bhubaneswar and Puri ahead of the festival season.
As of now, the producers ofMahaprabhu Jagannathhave not issued any official response to the concerns raised by the temple authorities.
