Bhubaneswar, August 3: The enrolment deadline under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for Kharif 2026 in Odisha has been extended to August 15, said an official release.

“The enrolment deadline under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for Kharif 2026 in Odisha has been extended from 31st July to 15th August 2026. The extension has been approved by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, following a request from the Cooperation Department, Government of Odisha,” said a release issued by the State Cooperation Department.

This extension provides an additional window for eligible farmers to enrol under the scheme and safeguard their crops against potential losses arising from natural calamities and other notified risks.

Under PMFBY Kharif 2026, the notified crops include Paddy, Maize, Groundnut, Ragi, Cotton, Red Gram, Ginger, and Turmeric in the designated areas. The scheme is open to loanee farmers, non-loanee farmers, and sharecroppers, ensuring inclusive coverage across farming communities.

It is pertinent to mention here that, the Odisha Government is providing crop insurance coverage free of cost up to 5 acres per farmer, with only a nominal charge of Rs 1 per plot for account validation. The farmer’s premium share is fully borne by the State Government, with additional subsidy support from the Government of India.

Farmers are required to have an Aadhaar number or Aadhaar enrolment proof for registration. They are advised to keep necessary documents ready, including land records, bank account details, and crop-related information.

For enrolment, loanee farmers can approach their respective PACS/LAMPCS or Bank Branches while non-loanee farmers can enrol themselves through CSCs, Cooperative Banks, Commercial Bank branches, Insurance Intermediaries, and approved digital platforms.

The farmers can also get the assistance at PACS/LAMPCS, ARCS, DRCS, CDAO offices, and authorised insurance representatives for enrolment.

The Cooperation Department appeals to all eligible farmers to get themselves enrolled, ensuring timely financial protection of their crops in the El Nino Year.
