Bhubaneswar, Ap 16: Bhubaneswar AIIMS witnessed a major disruption on Wednesday as over 100 nurses, led by Bhubaneswar MC Nursing Association President Ramesh Ponugupati, staged a protest outside the OPD block demanding justice for a recent attack on him.
The protest caused temporary disruption of hospital services, including emergency care. Patients reportedly faced delays in treatment as nurses refused to administer saline, injections, or medications, leading to dissatisfaction among patient relatives.
The incident that sparked the protest occurred on April 10, when Ponugupati was returning home from work at AIIMS and was allegedly attacked by six unidentified assailants in a vehicle.
Police have so far arrested two individuals in connection with the case, but the Nursing Association insists that more people were involved and has demanded the arrest of all accused. Following discussions with authorities, the protest was temporarily suspended. However, the association has warned that the agitation will intensify if all suspects are not taken into custody.
Earlier, nurses had conducted a silent protest by wearing black armbands to express their discontent over the attack.
