Bhubaneswar, June 13: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Bhakta Das on Saturday visited Tikhiri Panchayat Sarpanch Chameli Ojha in the Hospital, and assured her of the party’s full support in her legal and political battle.
Speaking after the meeting, Das said the Congress stands firmly with Chameli Ojha and will extend all possible assistance to her. He reiterated the party’s commitment to safeguarding democratic rights and supporting women facing injustice.
Chameli Ojha, the Sarpanch of Tikhiri Panchayat under Mahakalpada block in Kendrapara district, has recently been at the centre of a political controversy. She was arrested and subsequently sent to jail after a police case was registered against her in connection with an alleged assault and altercation that reportedly occurred while she was travelling to the Mahakalpada block office.
Her arrest has triggered widespread political reactions and public debate, with opposition parties raising concerns over democratic freedoms and the safety and security of women in the state.
OPCC Chief Bhakta Das has criticized the Odisha government over issues related to women’s safety and law and order. He demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the incident.
