Balangir, Sept 26: In a tragic and shocking incident, a snake rescuer lost his life reportedly after being bitten by a venomous cobra while performing snake tricks in front of a crowd at Bakagura village in Odisha’s Balangir district.

The deceased has been identified as Santosh Chand, a resident of Sindheikela.

According to reports, Santosh was called to a villager’s house after a cobra was spotted inside. He successfully captured the snake and, in an attempt to entertain the gathered crowd, began performing stunts and tricks with the reptile.

However, during one of the stunts, the cobra bit Santosh on the tongue. The venom spread rapidly through his body, leaving him critically injured.

He was immediately rushed to Bhawanipatna Hospital, but despite efforts by medical staff, he succumbed to the snakebite shortly after being admitted.

Forest department officials have been informed, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
