Bhubaneswar, Ap 22: The Central Government has rolled out new vehicle classification rules that divide vehicles into four categories based on their compliance and roadworthiness. If enforced in Odisha, these regulations could lead to the removal of nearly 8 lakh vehicles from the state’s roads.
According to the new system, vehicles will be categorized as Active Compliant, Active Non-Compliant, Temporary Archive, and Permanent Archive. Vehicles with valid insurance and pollution certificates will remain in the Active Compliant category. Those without updated documents for over two years will be designated as Active Non-Compliant, while older vehicles with expired or missing documents will be placed in Temporary or Permanent Archive categories. Vehicles in the Permanent Archive category will no longer be permitted on the road.
Authorities have clarified that owners of vehicles designated as Permanent Archive must present valid justification to the State Transport Commissioner if they wish to regain permission to use their vehicles. While the rules are aimed at promoting road safety and reducing pollution, they have raised concerns among vehicle owners about potential costs and administrative challenges.
