Bhubaneswar, Jul 18: The Odisha Government has released a draft notification outlining the proposed reservation of Chairperson posts for 35 newly constituted Municipalities and Notified Area Councils (NACs) across the state. The draft has been issued by the Housing and Urban Development Department.
According to the proposal, 11 Chairperson posts have been reserved for Scheduled Caste (Women) candidates. In addition, 7 posts have been proposed for Scheduled Castes (SC), 7 posts for Scheduled Tribe (Women), 4 posts for Scheduled Tribes (ST), 4 posts for Women, and 2 posts have been kept unreserved.
The draft proposes reserving the Chairperson posts of Boudhgarh, Asika, Kabisuryanagar, Bhanjanagar, and another municipality for Women candidates. Meanwhile, the Chairperson posts of Polasara Municipality and Odagaon NAC have been proposed as unreserved.
The Chatrapur Municipality Chairperson post has been proposed to be reserved for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category.
Similarly, the Chairperson posts of Chitrada, Bangiriposi, Kaptipada, Betanati, Bamra, Rengali, and Borigumma NACs have been proposed to be reserved for Scheduled Tribe (Women) candidates. The Chairperson posts of Rasgovindpur, Gandia, Jayapatna, and Chandikhol NACs have been proposed for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
The government has invited objections and suggestions from the public within 15 days of the draft notification's publication in the Odisha Gazette. Citizens can submit their representations to the Office of the Director of Municipal Administration.
The state government has assured that all objections and suggestions received within the stipulated period will be examined before issuing the final notification on the reservation of Chairperson posts.
