Odisha Govt Launches ‘Model Village Mission’ and ‘Mahapurush Adarsha Gram Yojana’ to Boost Rural Development

Bhubaneswar, May 26: The Odisha government on Monday unveiled two major rural development initiatives — the Model Village Mission and the Mahapurush Adarsha Gram Yojana — with the aim of transforming villages by providing urban-standard amenities and services.

The schemes were launched by Odisha Minister Rabi Narayan Naik during a virtual meeting. The initiatives are designed to reduce the rural-urban gap and ensure inclusive growth across the state.

As part of the government’s broader “Viksit Odisha 2036” vision, the projects will focus on strengthening basic infrastructure and improving the quality of life in rural areas. To facilitate effective implementation, the state government has formed dedicated task forces at both the state and district levels to oversee and monitor the progress of the schemes.

Under the Model Village Mission, the government plans to develop all 6,733 Gram Panchayat headquarters villages into self-sustaining and well-equipped rural hubs in the first phase by 2029. The initiative aims to provide improved civic amenities, better infrastructure, and enhanced community facilities in villages.

Speaking on the occasion, Naik said the mission would empower rural Odisha by bringing urban-level services to villages and transforming them into self-reliant and self-governing centres of development and prosperity.
