Bhubaneswar, June 10: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that the Odia film Meher Munda, directed by Nikunj Hota, will be exempt from entertainment tax.

Released on May 15, 2026, the film portrays the life, struggles, resilience, and achievements of Odisha’s handloom weaving community. The movie highlights the rich cultural heritage, traditional craftsmanship, and artistic excellence of the state's weavers.

According to the Chief Minister, the decision to grant tax-free status was taken in recognition of the film’s contribution to showcasing Odisha’s glorious handloom traditions and preserving its cultural identity.

Following the announcement, director Nikunj Hota and other members associated with the film expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Odisha government for the recognition.

The decision has been widely welcomed by the Odia film fraternity, which views the move as a significant encouragement for filmmakers producing content that promotes Odisha’s culture, heritage, and traditional arts.
