Rourkela, March 31: A retired head clerk from the office of the Executive Engineer, R&B Division in Rourkela has been convicted in a bribery case and sentenced to 4-year rigorous imprisonment imprisonment.
According to official sources, Subash Chandra Das had been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The case pertained to allegations that he demanded and accepted a bribe from a contractor in exchange for releasing the contractor’s security deposit related to executed construction work.
Special Vigilance Judge, Sundargarh, found Das guilty of the charges. He was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of four years and was also directed to pay a fine of ₹15,000.
Following the conviction, Das was immediately taken into custody and sent to jail to serve his sentence.
In a further development, Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will approach the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of Das’s pension benefits, in accordance with rules applicable after conviction in corruption cases.
