Odisha DGP Khurania Reviews Investigation into Balianta Mob Lynching Incident

Bhubaneswar, May 10:Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y. B. Khurania reviewed the ongoing investigation into the Balianta mob lynching incidents, which have drawn widespread attention across the state. The Crime Branch initiated the probe earlier today.

Following the incident, Odisha Police intensified their efforts to maintain law and order. A high-level meeting was convened at the Bhubaneswar Police Bhawan to assess the situation and plan preventive measures against mob violence.

The meeting was attended by the DGP, the Police Commissioner, the Additional Commissioners, and the Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs). All Inspectors-in-Charge (IICs) of Commissionerate Police stations were present, while several others joined virtually.

During discussions, senior officials discussed strategies to strengthen policing, prevent mob-related incidents, and ensure strict enforcement of the law across the Commissionerate Police limits.

“I visited to discuss the investigations into the Balianta incidents with Bhubaneswar UPD and Commissionerate officials, and to identify areas for improvement. Media reports over the past few days may have caused public unease. We held an open discussion on restoring the trust and confidence of citizens. I have complete faith in the Commissionerate Police, who will remain proactive in the coming days. They have performed commendably in the past. On behalf of the Commissionerate Police, I assure the public that their safety and security are our top priorities. Odisha Police and the Commissionerate Police are fully equipped to protect the people,” said DGP Y. B. Khurania.
