Odisha CM launches Rs 1,647 crore power project in Keonjhar

Keonjhar, April 28: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a 420/220 kv Grid Substation to be built at a cost of Rs 1647 crore at Uchhabali in Barbil of Keonjhar district. He also inaugurated five new transmission lines.

This project will benefit around 7.17 lakh consumers across Keonjhar Sadar, Telkoi, Jhumpura, Joda, and Barbil, said Majhi.

Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister KV Singh Deo, Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud, among others graced the launch ceremony.

The Chief Minister said that major steps are being taken by the State Government to prevent power outages in Keonjhar district.

“Upgradation of Barbil and Palaspanga grids is a priority for the State Government. ‘Hotline Maintenance’ system will be implemented, enabling repairs even while power flows through lines,” said Majhi.

“The entire region will be connected through a strong network via 400 kv LILO lines and the TTPS–Joda & Turumunga–Rairangpur lines. These modern systems will boost industrial growth in Keonjhar and make Odisha’s future power transmission network world-class, while balancing industrial and domestic demand,” said Majhi.

The Chief Minister also spoke about future plans. These include repairs without power cuts through "hotline maintenance" and building more high-capacity grid stations across the State.

“As many as 34 new grid substations will be set up across the State by 2036. Plans ready for Odisha’s first 765 kv grids in Bhubaneswar, Jajpur, Jharsuguda & Gajapati. New State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) at Mancheswar to make power management smarter,” announced the Chief Minister.
