Odisha: 50-yr-old livestock farmer shot dead, Rs 51k looted by miscreants

Baripada, Nov 10: Miscreants allegedly shot dead a 50 year-old livestock farmer reportedly during a loot attempt on Mayurbhanj-Keonjhar border in Odisha on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Heerananda Mahanta, a resident of Kalanda village in Raruan tehsil of the district.

As per reports, Mahanta had gone to a weekly market to buy cattle when four bike-borne armed miscreants intercepted him at a secluded place near Kendua village and demanded him hand over the cash bag at gunpoint.

As Mahanta resisted, the miscreants opened fire at him leading to his death on the spot. Later, they grabbed the money bag containing Rs 51,000 cash before and fled from the scene.

Upon getting the information, Ghagarbeda police arrived at the scene and rushed a profusely bleeding Mahanta to Karanjia sub-divisional hospital. However, the attending doctors declared him brought dead.

A case has been registered and further investigation into the incident is underway, said the police.
