Mumbai, Feb 5: Nick Jonas has bravely shared the difficult and emotional details of his daughter Malti Marie's birth, revealing the intense medical challenges she faced after being born prematurely in January 2022. In a recent appearance on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast, the 33-year-old singer described the harrowing circumstances surrounding his first child’s arrival with wife Priyanka Chopra.

The couple had been expecting their daughter to arrive in April 2022, but the birth came earlier than anticipated, leaving Jonas and Chopra to quickly mobilize. "We got a call that it was going to be sooner,” Jonas recalled, explaining the rushed preparations as the family faced an uncertain future.

Malti, born via surrogate, weighed just 1 pound, 11 ounces, and was immediately in critical condition. Jonas recalled the moment of her birth, describing her as "purple," and thanked the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) staff for their swift intervention. “These angels at the NICU resuscitated her in that moment," he said, describing the initial steps to stabilize their newborn, which included intubation and other vital measures.

The couple, who had to navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, took turns spending time at the hospital. For three and a half months, Jonas and Chopra Jonas each took 12-hour shifts at the NICU as Malti fought for her life. "It was comforting and frightening at the same time,” Jonas said, remembering the overwhelming hospital atmosphere.

During this time, Malti received six blood transfusions. Her condition steadily improved, and after several months, the family was finally able to take her home. Jonas shared that Malti is now “doing great” and spoke with deep emotion about how their daughter, despite her early struggles, is flourishing. "Every day is a gift," he said.

Priyanka Chopra also previously opened up about the difficult period, sharing that Malti was born a full trimester early and was “smaller than my hand.” She described the moment in the operating room when doctors intubated their newborn, unsure of whether Malti would survive.

Since then, the family has cherished simple moments together, with Priyanka noting that their favorite tradition is "Sunday morning snuggles in bed.” She called their time spent together the greatest luxury in their lives.

On the professional front, Priyanka Chopra is gearing up for her role in SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, where she stars alongside Mahesh Babu. Set for release in Sankranti 2027, the film also features Prithviraj Sukumaran. Additionally, Chopra is set to star in The Bluff, where she will portray a 19th-century Caribbean pirate, slated for release on February 25.
