Bhubaneswar, June 7: Following the successful conclusion of the Second BRICS Technical Meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group held in Puri, senior officials of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) met Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg at Lok Seva Bhawan.
The delegation comprised Dr. Krishna S. Vatsa, Member and Head of Department, NDMA, Rita Missal, Member, NDMA, and Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, Special Relief Commissioner, Odisha.
During the meeting, Dr. Vatsa and Missal briefed the Chief Secretary on the key discussions, outcomes and deliberations of the BRICS DRR Working Group meeting, as well as other engagements conducted under the broader framework of the BRICS Summit.
Chief Secretary Anu Garg lauded the successful organisation of the international event in Puri and reaffirmed Odisha’s commitment to strengthening disaster resilience through enhanced preparedness, efficient response systems and the adoption of global best practices in disaster management.
She also highlighted Odisha’s achievements in disaster risk management, particularly in the areas of cyclone preparedness, early warning dissemination and community-based disaster response. These initiatives, she noted, have earned the state recognition at both national and international levels for its proactive and effective disaster management framework.
