Jajpur, June 20: A man’s suspicious death at a rehabilitation centre in Jaraka under Dharmasala police limits has created tension in the area, with his family members alleging that he was beaten to death.

The deceased has been identified as Rajib Barik, a resident of Bhagabanpur village.

According to reports, Rajib was struggling with excessive alcohol addiction, following which his family had admitted him to a rehabilitation centre in Jaraka a few months ago. After undergoing treatment and recovering, he had returned home a few days earlier.

Rajib was previously working at a salon. His family claimed that there had been an earlier dispute over some pending payments.

The incident reportedly occurred when Rajib was called to the rehabilitation centre to cut the hair and shave the beards of the inmates. Rajib reached the centre along with his son. However, as the work was expected to take time, the centre staff allegedly sent his son back home.

Later, Rajib was found in a critical condition and was admitted to Dharmasala Medical Centre, where he died during treatment.

After receiving information about his death, Rajib’s family members reached the de-addiction centre, leading to tension at the spot. The family alleged that Rajib was assaulted and killed inside the centre.

Police from Dharmasala reached the location, brought the situation under control, and began an investigation into the matter. Further details will emerge after the completion of the police inquiry
