Bhubaneswar, June 30: A major fire broke out at the Unit-II Market Building in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday morning, gutting more than 10 shops and causing heavy damage to goods and property.

The blaze was reported at around 6:30 am after smoke was noticed emanating from the market complex. On receiving the information, three fire tenders rushed to the spot and launched an operation to douse the flames. Firefighters are continuing efforts to bring the fire under control.

Several shops in the market are yet to be opened, and officials fear that more establishments may have been affected by the blaze. Garments worth lakhs of rupees, along with several other valuable items, are suspected to have been destroyed in the incident.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. A detailed assessment of the losses will be carried out after the firefighting operation is completed.

No casualties or injuries have been reported so far. Authorities are expected to initiate an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
