Bhubaneswar, Feb: While the long-standing dispute over the Mahanadi Water distribution between Odisha & Chhattisgarh is inching towards an amicable resolution, the Tribunal’s hearing on March 14 is going to be phenomenal for Odisha.
After studying the ground-level status, visiting across the two states involving significant spots along the Mahanadi, the Tribunal will reportedly address the interstate issue.
The Mahanadi Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT), examining the river water row between Odisha and Chhattisgarh, has rescheduled the hearing slated for Saturday on March 14.
As per information, the Tribunal is set to hold a hearing after conducting a spot visit preferably before the hearing. Accordingly, the Tribunal will conduct the hearing based on the member’s accounts and reports.
Political analysts assume that the conclusive hearing before the completion of the tribunal’s tenure, set to end on April 13 will decide the fate of Odisha, in providing the state’s legitimate claim from the perennial sources of water.
Before the Tribunal’s timeline ends, Odisha and Chhattisgarh have already requested the Centre to extend the independent body’s tenure until March 27, 2027, to ensuring settlement of the dispute.
Meanwhile, Odisha Advocate General Pitambar Acharya mentioned that the hearing on March 14 will focus on the issues related to the equitable sharing of Mahanadi water. Thus, it is expected to be a crucial resolve towards resolving the long-standing dispute with the neighboring state.
