Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Sept 23: As many as two persons were killed and 12 others sustained injuries after a three-storey building collapsed near Daulatganj locality in Indore’s Ranipura on Monday night.
The deceased have been identified as Alfia (20) and her uncle Faimuddin Ansari.
As per reports, the building on Jawahar Marg collapsed around 9:30 p.m. on Monday night, sending shockwaves through one of the city's busiest areas.
Upon getting the information, rescue teams rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation. Working through darkness and rubble, they pulled out the survivors from the wreckage.
All the injured were admitted to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital for treatment. However, Alfia and Faimuddin were declared dead by the attending doctors.
Doctors at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital stated that while most of the injured are in stable condition, they continue to be closely monitored. Four individuals remain critical, according to Dr. Arvind Ghanghoria, Dean of MGM Medical College.
According to Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, 14 people were trapped, of whom 12 were rescued. The remaining two were found and pulled out after a five-hour rescue operation.
Navigating the narrow lanes of Daulatganj proved difficult for rescuers and ambulances, forcing them to carry the injured on stretchers through crowded alleys to Jawahar Marg, where ambulances were waiting to transport them to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital.
The building, believed to be eight to ten years old, had long exhibited signs of structural weakness. Residents had voiced concerns about cracks in the walls and falling plaster, but no remedial action was taken.
