Khordha Police bust brown sugar racket, Rs26 Lakh contraband seized

Khordha, May 7: In a major anti-drug operation, Khordha Sadar Police conducted a raid at Jhinkijhari near Tapang after receiving reliable information about illegal brown sugar trade in the area. During the raid, police seized 259 grams of brown sugar worth nearly ₹26 lakh, along with cash of ₹30,000 and two motorcycles.

Four alleged drug peddlers were arrested in connection with the case and later produced before the court. Khordha SP said the crackdown against narcotics trade will continue across the district in the coming days.

The latest seizure comes amid a series of anti-drug crackdowns in Odisha. Recently, brown sugar worth around ₹20 lakh was seized from the Utkal University campus in Bhubaneswar, while another special operation under “Operation Sugar Trap” led to the arrest of three persons, including a woman, in Khordha district. In a separate case, police and excise officials seized brown sugar worth nearly ₹50 lakh in Bhubaneswar as part of intensified drives against narcotics smuggling in the state.
