India dominates host Japan to win U-18 Asia Cup
India secured gold at the Men's U-18 Asia Cup by defeating host nation Japan 4-1 on Friday. This remarkable victory firmly cements Indian dominance in Asian youth hockey development programs. Star forward Ashish Tani Purti drove the historic win with three brilliant goals. Captain Ketan Kushwaha added another crucial point to guarantee the win in Kakamigahara. Purti struck incredibly fast, converting a penalty corner within two minutes of the starting whistle. Japan tried to fight back and push into the circle, but the Indian defenders blocked every attempt.
Purti doubled the lead just before halftime with a powerful shot into the net. Prahalad Rajbhar then stole the ball and passed to Kushwaha, who quickly scored to make it 3-0 at the break. Purti finished his impressive trio of goals in the third quarter after Varinder Singh set up another penalty corner. Japan pushed hard during the final minutes and managed a single penalty stroke goal from Numada Gaku. However, the Indian boys held off several late penalty corners to seal the championship.
Hockey India quickly praised the triumphant champions. Officials promised three lakh rupees for each male gold medalist to celebrate their hard work. Support staff members will receive 1.5 lakh rupees each. Leaders also rewarded the women's team for securing bronze earlier that same day. Purti rightfully claimed the top scorer award with seventeen total tournament goals. Ayush Rajak won best goalkeeper, while Nausheen Naz topped the women's scoring charts, rounding out an incredible youth campaign.
