Cuttack, April 18: Badamba police have arrested a homeopathic doctor for allegedly carrying out illegal sex determination tests and abortions at an unauthorized clinic near Sunapal Chhak. The accused, Dr. Jayanta Kumar Bastia, was caught during an undercover operation by a woman sub-inspector.

Police said the clinic had been running for nearly 30 years, where the doctor allegedly performed illegal procedures for monetary gain. Equipment related to sex determination and abortion was seized during the raid.

The incident surfaced after a woman from Binchanabati village developed critical complications following an abortion at the clinic. She was first admitted to Badamba CHC and later shifted to Athagarh.

Acting on a complaint, police laid a trap and arrested the doctor while he was consulting an undercover officer. Officials confirmed that the clinic lacked valid documents.

The accused was produced in court, where his bail was rejected, and he was sent to judicial custody. Locals have demanded an inquiry into how such activities continued unchecked for years.
