KATAKA, July 7: The postmortem report of Chauliaganj police station Inspector in-charge (IIC) Beauty Mohnaty on Tuesday revealed that the lady cop had died of ‘asphyxia due to hanging,’ a conclusion that adds weight to the theory that the she died by suicide.
Meanwhile, the Commissionerate police is investigating the unnatural death case from all angles, including the monetary aspects by forming a four-member team of senior police officials led by an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP.)
Mohanty was found hanging inside her official restroom located on the upper floor of Chauliaganj police station on Saturday morning. While Commissioner of Police S Dev Datta Singh said she might have had some personal problems, her husband Samir Swain claimed there was no issue in their marriage and urged police to ensure that no such misleading things circulated in the social media platforms.
The Commissionerate Police has seized two mobile phones belonging to Mohanty including an i-phone and sent it to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) for examination. Police have requested the SFSL to retrieve all the data including the deleted chats as early as possible hoping to find some information regarding her suicide.
Meanwhile, police received the call detail records (CDR) from the telecom service providers concerned. According to reports, the last call to the lady cop was from his husband.
Police also trying to extract some information from her social media and WhatsApp chats to ascertain the cause behind her suicide.
