Cuttack, June 18: A Hyva truck driver sustained critical injuries after the vehicle lost control and plunged off a bridge on Wednesday night. Fire personnel from Dampada rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped driver before shifting him to hospital for treatment.

According to reports, the Hyva truck bearing registration number OD 02 DF 4422 was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Kalikaprasad Sand Ghat to collect sand at around 1 a.m. When the vehicle reached Bhagipur, the driver reportedly lost control of the truck due to reasons yet to be ascertained.

As a result, the truck veered off the road and fell beneath a bridge. The driver became trapped inside the crushed cabin of the vehicle following the accident.

On receiving information, a team from the Dampada Fire Service immediately reached the accident site and launched a rescue operation. Firefighters had to cut open the damaged cabin to extricate the driver.

The injured driver was rescued and rushed to a nearby medical facility. Owing to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, for advanced treatment.

Police have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
