Sambalpur, Sep 27: Authorities at Hirakud Dam have closed four of the 20 floodgates that were opened on Friday to release excess water, following days of continuous rainfall. At present, floodwater is being discharged through 16 gates.
On Friday, heavy inflow into the Hirakud reservoir prompted officials to open 20 gates, leading to a discharge of 5.78 lakh cusecs of water at Munduli. However, with water levels stabilizing, four gates were shut on Saturday to regulate the outflow.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely, as rainfall activity persists in the upper catchment areas.
