Keonjhar, Jul 6: Continuous heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life in the Telkoi block of Keonjhar district, with floodwaters inundating roads and cutting off connectivity to several villages.
Around four feet of rainwater is flowing over the bridge across the Ghurudia Nala near Karadangi village, snapping road connectivity to five villages under Karadangi Gram Panchayat.
The Telkoi region witnessed heavy rainfall throughout the day on Sunday, leading to a sharp rise in the water levels of several rivers and streams. The swelling floodwaters have washed away temporary bridges at some places, while at others, water continues to flow over bridges, making them unsafe for vehicular movement.
In a separate incident late Sunday night, a car belonging to Prabin Patra, a resident of Sarei village, was reportedly swept away by the strong current while attempting to cross the flooded Ghurudia Nala. The vehicle is yet to be traced, though no information on casualties has been reported so far.
With road links to Karadangi Panchayat completely severed, residents of the affected villages remain stranded and are facing a waterlogged situation. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as continuous rainfall continues to pose a flood risk across the region.
Local residents have been advised to avoid crossing flooded roads, bridges, and streams until the water level recedes.
