Head-on collision near Digapahandi claims one life, two critically injured

Berhampur, Jan 13: A tragic road accident occurred near Digapahandi town on National Highway 326, close to Kapamandi, when a Bolero collided head-on with an ambulance. Lalita Nayak, a resident of Rayagada’s Kashipur area, was killed in the crash, while her sister Kumari Nayak and nephew Buna Nayak sustained serious injuries.

According to reports, Lalita was being taken to Cuttack District Hospital for treatment when her family was returning to Kashipur late Monday night around 2:30 AM. The ambulance, reportedly traveling at high speed from the opposite direction, struck their vehicle.

The Digapahandi Fire Brigade, assisted by local police, rescued the injured and admitted them to the Digapahandi Community Health Centre. Doctors declared Lalita dead on arrival. Due to the critical condition of Kumari and Buna, they were transferred to Berhampur District Hospital for further treatment.

Police have registered a case, seized both vehicles involved in the accident, and sent Lalita’s body for postmortem examination in Brahmapur. The investigation is ongoing.
