Berhampur, Jul 8: In a major anti-human trafficking operation, four minors were rescued from Chhatrapur Railway Station in Odisha's Ganjam district late Tuesday night, while two suspected traffickers were detained by authorities.
The rescue operation was carried out jointly by the Labour Department, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police following a specific intelligence input.
According to officials, the rescued children belong to the Chhatrapur and Purushottampur areas of Ganjam district. They were allegedly being taken to Surat in Gujarat via Chhatrapur Railway Station, raising suspicions of human trafficking.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the joint team intercepted the suspects before the children could be transported. During the operation, authorities rescued all four minors, detained the two suspected traffickers, and seized the vehicle allegedly used to transport the children.
The rescued minors will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee for counselling, care, and rehabilitation in accordance with legal procedures.
Meanwhile, police have launched a detailed investigation and are questioning the detained suspects to ascertain the motive behind the transportation of the children and to uncover any larger trafficking network that may be involved.
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine whether the case is linked to an organised child trafficking racket.
