Bhubaneswar, June 15: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has achieved a remarkable distinction by securing awards in all four categories of shields announced by the Railway Board for the best performing locomotive sheds in Indian Railways based on their performance during the financial year 2025-26. The awards will be presented during the 43rd Maintenance Study Group (MSG) Meeting to be held at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), Chittaranjan on June 19 and 20.
Demonstrating excellence in locomotive maintenance, reliability and operational efficiency, the ECoR emerged as the only Zonal Railway to secure at least one award in each of the four categories evaluated by the Railway Board.
In the category of “Best Diesel Shed Homing Electric Locomotives,” Waltair Diesel Shed (WATD) secured the Second Position. Angul Electric Loco Shed (ANGE) achieved the First Position in the category of “Best Loco Shed Homing 3-Phase Electric Locomotives” and also secured the Second Position in the “Best Loco Shed Homing Conventional Electric Locomotives” category. In the category of “Best Shed Homing Electric Coaching Locomotives,” Waltair Electric Loco Shed (WATE) secured the Second Position.
The awards were determined through a comprehensive analytical assessment of the performance of locomotive sheds during the financial year 2025–26. The evaluation was based on key performance indicators, with significant weightage assigned to locomotive failure rate percentage, year-on-year improvement in reliability, and effective utilisation of manpower resources.
The award-winning sheds registered significant improvements in locomotive reliability during 2025–26. Angul Electric Loco Shed achieved a 20.0% improvement in locomotive reliability, while Waltair Electric Loco Shed recorded a 19.2% improvement. Waltair Diesel Loco Shed also demonstrated commendable performance with a 19.0% improvement. These achievements reflect East Coast Railway's sustained focus on maintenance excellence, operational efficiency, and enhanced locomotive performance.

ECoR General Manager congratulated the award winning teams. He said that the recognition earned for the financial year 2025–26 reflects the high standards of maintenance and operational reliability maintained by ECoR and encouraged the teams to continue setting new benchmarks in locomotive performance and safety.
