Congress Set to Surpass 100 Seats in Keralam Elections; CM Decision Pending, Says MP K. Suresh

Thiruvananthapuram, May 4: Congress MP K. Suresh expressed confidence that the party is on track to secure over 100 seats in the ongoing 2026 Keralam Assembly elections. Speaking to ANI, he emphasized that while the counting process is still underway, the party is optimistic about crossing the significant 100-seat mark.

"The counting isn’t over yet, but we are heading past 100 seats," Suresh stated. "Once the final count is in, our elected MLAs will convene in Thiruvananthapuram for a Legislature Party meeting. Following that, we will meet with our coalition partners and hold a UDF meeting. The Congress high command will take the final call," he added.

Suresh also clarified that the CM decision would be made after discussions within the party and coalition, with the high command's direction playing a pivotal role.

Congress MP K. C. Venugopal also weighed in, attributing the party’s success to widespread anti-incumbency against the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF). "The people’s dissatisfaction with the LDF government was palpable, and we made sure to capitalize on that sentiment," he said. "Leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have great popularity here in Kerala. The LDF government was seen as highly corrupt," Venugopal added.

With the Congress-led UDF crossing the majority mark in the 140-member Assembly, early trends suggest that the opposition is leading over the LDF, helmed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The results signal a strong rejection of the LDF's decade-long rule, amid rising anti-incumbency and governance concerns.

Counting is ongoing in several key states, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry, with heightened security as results continue to be revealed.
