Balasore, Jan 22: A law & order situation emerged in Odisha’s Balasore on Thursday while a Mini Bank official was tied to an electric pole and thrashed black & blue by a mob of women.

Police rescued the youth after a massive scuffle with the public that led to a lathi charge, said sources.

The harrowing incident took place at the Deuli village under the Baliapal Police limits.

According to report, one Ranjan Rana, reportedly through his Mini Bank Centre, received lakhs of deposits from the locals assuring them high return. However, he never returned any interest, even the principal capital to the bonafide depositors, despite frequent submission.

Aggrieved over it, a group of women rushed to the centre in the afternoon, picked the offender and thrashed him black & blue for their savings. As he tried to flee the scene, the errant women tied him with an electric pole.

On being informed, the Baliapal Police rushed to the spot and tried to release the youth from the mob but in vain. The locals faced off with the police who demanded the outright amounts to the claimants.

As the tension escalated, the police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the red-faced crowd and to keep up peace.

  1. accused has been detained. Armed police forces are deployed to address further escalation if any. Investigation is underway to determine the financial irregularities in the centre, said Baliapal SDPO.
