Bhubaneswar, July 7: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has announced a statewide "Siksha Banchaa Abhiyan (Save Education campaign)” to protest alleged irregularities in the state's education system.
The agitation will be held from July 9 to July 15, with the party urging youth, students, and parents to actively participate.
BJD MLA Byomakesh Ray alleged that serious errors in textbooks distributed to students from Class I to Class VIII have exposed major shortcomings in the education system.
He claimed that the issue has created confusion among students and raised concerns among parents regarding the quality of education.
Ray further alleged that there is a lack of coordination between the Chief Minister, the School and Mass Education Minister, and the department's Secretary in addressing the textbook controversy.
He said the government has failed to provide a clear explanation, leaving parents worried about their children's academic future.
The BJD has demanded the resignation of the School and Mass Education Minister and the department's Secretary, holding them accountable for the alleged lapses.
The party has also demanded that revised and error-free textbooks be provided to students within one month.
The opposition party further urged the Chief Minister to order a thorough investigation into the matter. If the textbook errors are the result of a conspiracy, the government should identify those responsible and take strict action against them, the party said.
