Bhubaneswar, June 30: Three bike-borne miscreants allegedly killed a man in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, in a violent incident that later saw one of the accused die while attempting to flee.
The incident took place under Talsara police limits during the intervening night of Monday.
The victim, Shivdhan Lohar, a resident of Ranchi in Jharkhand, had travelled to Sundargarh with his friend Anmol Mallik to assist in transporting a patient to a hospital. While they were returning in separate vehicles, Shivdhan’s car was allegedly intercepted by the assailants.
According to reports, the attackers dragged him out of the vehicle, assaulted him with a knife, and robbed him of his belongings. He was then taken to another location, where he was repeatedly stabbed before his body was dumped in a stream.
After the attack, the accused fled in the victim’s car but met with an accident near Khamarbahal. One of them died on the spot, another sustained injuries and was hospitalized, while a juvenile was apprehended by police.
Police have recovered the weapon used in the crime as well as the stolen vehicle, and further investigation is underway.
