Paradip witnesses dramatic revival of Shakespearean legends at CANFEST
Bhubaneswar-based theatre group Hrudya transformed the Jayadev Sadan stage into a literary time machine during the third evening of the 23rd National Theatre Festival, CANFEST-2026. Directed by Prof. Ramakanta Mishra, the production titled Shakespeare captivated the Paradip audience by resurrecting the spirit of the world’s most renowned dramatist to narrate his own legacy.
Bard Returns to Paradip Port
Performers skillfully navigated the boundary between history and fiction as the protagonist’s spirit emerged from the grave to recount his personal struggles and professional triumphs. This biographical drama utilized the iconic "All the world’s a stage" monologue as a foundation, weaving together legendary scenes from Hamlet, Macbeth, and The Merchant of Venice. While Paradip is primarily recognized as a major industrial hub, events like CANFEST serve as a vital cultural bridge, maintaining Odisha’s reputation as a sanctuary for high-caliber performing arts.
Transitions between the poet’s personal life and his timeless creations allowed the audience to experience the raw emotion of Romeo and Juliet and the political tension of Julius Caesar. The evening concluded with a poignant farewell as the spirit returned to its final rest, leaving the crowd in deep reflection.
