Kendrapada, April 16: Bhitarkanika National Park, well known as a major breeding ground for saltwater crocodiles, will remain closed to visitors from May 1 to July 31. The decision has been taken by the Rajnagar Forest Division in view of the ongoing crocodile breeding season.
During this period, crocodiles nest and lay eggs along rivers and creeks within the park. Authorities have imposed the closure to prevent any disturbance to their mating and nesting activities.
Officials said that female crocodiles guard their nests after laying eggs and tend to become highly aggressive, posing potential risks to visitors. Tourists have therefore been strictly advised to avoid visiting the park during the closure period.
