Bangladesh’s Viral ‘Trump’ Buffalo Moved to Dhaka Zoo, Spared from Eid Sacrifice

Dhaka, May 28: The albino buffalo in Bangladesh that became an internet sensation for its resemblance to US President Donald Trump has now found a permanent home at the Dhaka Zoo after being spared from Eid al-Adha sacrifice.

The unusual buffalo drew widespread attention online because of its distinctive blonde-like tuft of hair and facial features, which many social media users compared to Trump. The viral images and videos quickly gained traction across Bangladesh and internationally.

Speaking to ANI over the phone, Dhaka Zoo Director Rafiqul Islam Talukder confirmed that the animal was transferred to the zoo for conservation purposes rather than public exhibition.

“The albino buffalo has recently been brought to Dhaka Zoo for preservation. It is being kept here for conservation purposes, not specifically for display. However, as it is housed in an open area, visitors may still catch a glimpse of it from a distance,” Talukder said.

The rare buffalo had originally been brought to Rabeya Agro Farm in Narayanganj, near Dhaka, around eight months ago. About two months ago, it was reportedly sold to a businessman from the Jinjira area of Old Dhaka, who intended to sacrifice the animal during Eid al-Adha.

While at the farm, the buffalo’s striking appearance made it a social media phenomenon, with local and international media outlets highlighting the story.

Ahead of Eid, Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced that the buffalo would not be sacrificed due to its rare breed and unique characteristics. Following the decision, the animal was first taken to the Keraniganj Model Police Station before being moved to Dhaka Zoo under police supervision on Tuesday night.

According to zoo authorities, the buffalo has been placed under mandatory quarantine for at least two weeks, in line with Dhaka Zoo regulations. During this period, visitors will not be allowed near the animal. ( Agency Input)
