Bhubaneswar, June 30: A heinous and shameful incident has come to light in the Balipatna police station area. A minor girl was repeatedly sexually assaulted by her maternal uncle. As a result, the 12-year-old minor is now pregnant. She later tested positive for HIV and also experienced severe bleeding that required hospitalisation.

According to the complaint, the accused assaulted the minor on multiple occasions when she was alone at home, threatening her with dire consequences if she disclosed such matter to anyone. The girl became pregnant, and the accused allegedly administered medication to terminate the pregnancy, police said.

The girl experienced profuse bleeding and was first taken to Balipatna Community Health Centre before being transferred to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where the full extent of the abuse came to light, family members said.

Medical examinations revealed that the girl had contracted HIV, and her life remains at risk, according to family members.

Since this is an extremely sensitive matter, the hospital authorities have not provided any official confirmation, and the Balipatna police are also remaining tight-lipped on this aspect. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked widespread tension and outrage in the local community.
