Keonjhar, March 20: A bike theft case with striking resemblance to a Bollywood-style crime has been cracked by Ghasiapura police, with a simple clue—a T-shirt bearing the English capital letter “A”—leading to the arrest of the accused.

According to police, the bike was stolen late last night from a fitness centre in Shaulinga. Following a complaint, an investigation was launched and CCTV footage was scanned, which revealed the accused wearing a distinctive ‘A’ printed T-shirt during the theft.

Acting on the footage, police apprehended Deepak Rout of Hatishila village. During preliminary interrogation, it was found that he is a habitual offender and had used another stolen bike to carry out the crime.

Further probe led to the arrest of his associate Papun Perei from Patharpada village under Ramachandrapur police limits. Police have also seized three stolen motorcycles from their possession.

Sources said the investigation has now widened, with the involvement of at least four more members in the gang coming to light. Efforts are underway to nab the remaining accused, informed the Anandapur SDPO.
