Bhubaneswar, February 23: As many as 94,485 posts in the Government sector are lying vacant in the State as on February 12, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi told the Odisha Assembly on Monday.
Out of the 94,485 vacant posts, highest 20,289 posts are lying vacant in School and Mass Education Department followed by 16,032 in Home Department, 10,457 in Health and Family Welfare Department, the Chief Minister informed the House.
The Chief Minister said that as many as 39,505 people have been given employment between June 12, 2024 and February 12, 2026.
Notably, the Odisha Government on January 30 said it has prepared a blueprint to fill 65,000 vacancies in the State Government over the next two years.
In a letter to nodal officers of all departments, the General Administration and Public Grievance (GAPG) Department has directed them to update vacancy positions so those posts can be filled.
“It is reported on the recruitment web portal that there is a vacancy of 94,819 posts at the base level against a sanctioned strength of 3,87,537 as of January 27, 2025. Out of 94,819 base-level vacancies, 40,234 posts have been approved by the empowered committee for recruitment, while 33,420 posts have been sent to different recruiting agencies for conducting recruitment,” the department said in a communication on January 30.
For the context, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised to fill 1.5 lakh vacancies in the Government within five years.
