Cuttack, Oct 6: A 36-hour curfew has been imposed in several parts of Cuttack city, starting from 10 PM last night, following unrest during a religious immersion procession. The curfew is in effect across 13 police station limits and is being strictly enforced by local authorities.

As a precautionary measure, internet services have been suspended in the city until 7 PM today. The restrictions also include a complete ban on social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and X (formerly Twitter). Areas under the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Cuttack Development Authority (CDA), and Bayalishi Mouza have been placed under heightened restrictions.

According to officials, additional police forces have been deployed across sensitive locations to maintain law and order. Internet service providers and broadband networks have also been directed to restrict services in the affected zones. The Home Department confirmed that the shutdown was aimed at preventing the spread of misinformation and further escalation of tensions.

Essential services, including hospitals, medical stores, petrol pumps, and grocery shops, have been exempted from the curfew. Government offices and SCB Medical College remain operational. However, the police have urged the public to avoid unnecessary movement and limit the use of public transport during this period.

Authorities have warned of strict action against individuals found inciting violence or creating disturbances. The situation is being closely monitored, and decisions on curfew extension or relaxation will be taken based on ground reports.
