Bhubaneswar, Feb 11: The highly anticipated Radio Fair will kick off from the 12-15 February, blending vintage radios with modern broadcasting techniques to celebrate the rich history and future of the medium. This event will be hosted by Outreach, with Subrat Kumar Pati leading the initiative. This marks the 12th edition of the Radio Mela, coinciding with the World Radio Day celebrations.
The event will showcase an extensive display of new and old radios, gramophones, broadcasting equipment, and various types of walkie-talkies, creating a unique environment for radio enthusiasts. Many radio channels will also set up their stalls during the event.
This year’s International Radio Fair will see participation from licensed home radio operators from different states. These operators will showcase both home radio systems and emergency broadcasting setups. The Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) will collaborate with Odisha-based home radio operators to set up a special stall, focused on disaster management and emergency broadcasting.
One of the major attractions of the event will be the display of old radios in significant numbers. Radio lovers from different parts of the state are expected to exhibit over 3,000 radios. As in previous years, a variety of radio sets will also be available for sale at the Radio Mela.
Additionally, a stall by Phonographic Performance Limited India, a company from Mumbai, will be opened at the Mela. Through this stall, they aim to raise awareness about legal music broadcasting on the radio.
Community radio stations from across the state will also participate this time, contributing to the promotion of customer awareness through their broadcasts. The event will also feature a two-day workshop organized jointly by OSDMA and Outreach for radio broadcasters, focusing on the role of radio during disasters. The workshop will aim to provide training to raise awareness about the significance of radio during times of emergency.
Lastly, the Radio Fair will host a drawing competition related to radio for students, making it an exciting event for people of all ages to enjoy and learn.
