Independence Day 2025: Odisha Police officers among national awardees

Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: Two senior police officers from Odisha have been named recipients of the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, one of the highest honours in Indian policing, on the occasion of Independence Day 2025.

As per the list released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, ASP Rabindra Panda and Commandant Naresh Patel will be honoured for their exemplary contributions to policing and public service.

Alongside this high honour, nine personnel from the Odisha Police will be awarded the Medal for Gallantry in recognition of their exceptional bravery in the line of duty. Additionally, eleven officers will receive the Medal for Meritorious Service, acknowledging their dedication and years of committed service.

These accolades are part of the national list of Gallantry and Service Medals announced annually by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Independence Day. The awards celebrate individuals who have shown outstanding courage, distinguished service, and a strong commitment to public safety.

Nationwide, 233 individuals will receive Gallantry Awards, 758 will be honoured with Medals for Meritorious Service, and 99 will be presented with Distinguished Service Awards.

Among Odisha’s nine Gallantry Award recipients are one Sub-Inspector, one Constable, two personnel from the Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF), one Havildar, and four commandos. These awards span various categories, including Police, Fire Services, Home Guards, and Civil Defense.
