Illegal firearms network busted in Angul, one arrested

Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: The Special Task Force of the Crime Branch has seized 8 illegal firearms from Chhendipada in Angul, said an official on Sunday. One person has been arrested in this connection. Acting on a tip-off on the sale of illegal firearms by criminals, the STF and District police carried out a raid near Kerjang under Chhendipada police limits and arrested one person identified as Ratnakar Kalta of Sarapali in Sambalpur. As many as 8 country-made firearms, seven live ammunition and other incriminating materials were recovered from his possession, the official said. The STF has initiated a drive against illegal firearms since 2020. So far, 64 guns and 98 live ammunition have been recovered.
