Bhubaneswar, June 6: IAS officer Dhiman Chakma has rejoined government service after a period of suspension following his arrest in a bribery case. The 2021-batch officer has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Revenue Department and has officially resumed his duties.

Chakma was serving as Sub-Collector of Dharmagarh in Kalahandi district when he was arrested by Odisha Vigilance on charges of accepting a bribe. Vigilance officials allegedly caught him red-handed while accepting ₹10 lakh at his official residence.

During subsequent searches, officials reportedly recovered ₹47 lakh in cash from his residence. Vigilance teams also conducted raids at his residence in Tripura and gathered additional evidence as part of the investigation.

Following his arrest, the state government placed Chakma under suspension. However, in an order issued on May 21, he was appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Revenue Department. He has now joined the post and resumed official responsibilities.

The development comes months after the high-profile Vigilance case that had drawn significant public attention in the state.
