Subarnapur, August 1: In a significant operation, Rampur police seized Rs12,15,700 in cash from a vehicle during a routine vehicle check on Jagannath Road. The incident occurred two days ago, raising questions about the source and ownership of the large sum.
During the inspection, police found a bag contain
ing bundles of cash inside the vehicle. The Bolero and the four occupants were taken into custody and held at the police station for two days for further questioning.
The four individuals failed to provide satisfactory proof regarding the cash, leading to their arrest. The accused have been identified as Bhawani Shankar Barik, Sachin Khatua, and Dhirendra Majhi, all residents of Rundimahul village under Kantamal police station in Boudh district along with Brundaban Kunar from Sargipali village.
Rampur Police Station Officer Padmasini Meher confirmed that the seized money was counted and deposited in the presence of a magistrate. The arrested individuals have since been sent to court for legal proceedings.
Police investigations continue to trace the origin of the seized cash.
