Bhubaneswar, June 26: With the India Meteorological Department predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions of Odisha, the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department has issued a high alert to all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the state.

Principal Secretary of H&UD, Usha Padhee, has directed ULBs to remain vigilant and take immediate precautionary measures. She has instructed officials to deploy dewatering pumps in waterlogging-prone areas and ensure round-the-clock control rooms are fully operational.

Emphasizing the need for preparedness, Padhee called for the formation of rapid response teams to handle emergency situations swiftly and minimize disruptions.

“All urban local bodies must prioritize swift action and public safety,” she said, adding that the department is committed to working in close coordination with ULBs to maintain smooth urban operations during adverse weather.

Key instructions also include coordination with the Electricity Department, ensuring the availability of emergency manpower, and keeping all critical equipment ready for deployment.

The department has assured continuous monitoring of the situation and urged citizens to stay alert and follow the advisories issued by their respective local authorities.
