Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: How many bar girls are employed in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack ? The fact seems unclear and confusing. While Commissionerate Police reports that 120 bar girls are doing jobs, the Excise department figure is 38 . Similarly the number of active bars in the cities also mismatch, pointing to lack of coordination among concerned departments. According to the report of Excise department placed before Assembly, there are 8 bars in Bhubaneswar and 38 bar girls are working there to entertain the costumers. On the other hand, there are 21 active bars in Bhubaneswar, as revealed by up to date report of the Commissionerate Police which says that there are more than 120 bar dancing girls employed in these bars. As per the information available with the government, two bar girls are working with Quality Bar located at Bapuji Nagar while Green Field Bar near Hightech Square has got 6 bar girls. Ashoka Bar has employed 7 such girls. Similarly, Live up,Swagat, Ekamra, Deepali, and Rain the Club Bar are having 7,4,2,5 and 5 bar dancers respectively. Acting on the ruling of the Orissa High court and Section 44 of excise Act-2017 the Excise Commissioner levied to allowed dance bars. However, the raids conducted by the police and excise departments in 2019 had found 96 illegal bar girls dancing in 14 unauthorized bars in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. In the mean time all bars were shut down for Corona outbreak. Police found some defaulting bars then. Police said, almost all bar girls dancing in bars and hotels are from West Bengal. They are doing this business for their livelihood. Exact database could beef up their security at work.
