Bhubaneswar, 29/10: Kalinga Stadium, now considered as an international sports venue, is gearing up for an important hockey event next week. The Federation of Indian Hockey (FIH) Olympic Qualifying Hockey Tournament will be played here. It will be decided here as to whether the Hockey India team will get the ticket to Tokyo Olympics. The sign as to whether the women hockey team will show its spectacular performance in Tokyo after its success in Rio Olympics is expected to be seen here too. So the two Indian teams, male and female, are expected to descend to the ground with new strategies. The Indian women hockey team will meet the US and the men team will encounter its Russian counterpart in the two league matches to be played on November 1-2 here. The Indian women hockey team will play in Kalinga Stadium for the first time and the three Odia players- Deepgrace Ekka, Namita Toppo and Nilima Minz- will have the opportunity to show their performance on their home turf. Their family members will see them Live. If both teams will play well in the FIH Olympic Qualifying Tournament at Kalinga Stadium here, they will get direct ticket to play the 2020 Tokyo Olympic. Hence, the coming two matches here assume significance for both the teams. The three Odia women players are, therefore, excited for the coming match. On the other hand, Amit Rohit Das, who has found place in Hockey India team this time too due to his consistent performance as a reliable hand, will have the opportunity to exhibit his performance to the home crowd. So, the ensuing two matches to be played at Kalinga Stadium have thrown an opportunity for the Indian, especially Odia, players to play well and go to Tokyo Olympics. Hockey fans are, therefore, excited to watch these two matches with bated breath.
