New Delhi, January 7: With the HMPV cases are on the rise in China and Malaysia, two children from Maharashtra’s Nagpur have tested positive for the fatal virus.
With the new cases of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), the total tally has gone up to 7 in the country by Tuesday.
Health department sources said,the two positive cases detected in Nagpur recently involve two children, a seven-year-old and the other is of 13-years.
The children were under medications after they were infected with the H1N1 (swine flu), but later polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests confirmed HMPV positive. However, both of them recovered from the H1N1 related ailments with minimal care and now doing well.
Earlier, two cases of HMPV were detected from Karnataka, one from Gujarat and two from Tamil Nadu.
Based on the surge of the respiratory virus, the Union Health Ministry in line with the health authorities of the states and Union Territories scaled up precautions and surveillance in this connection.
