Bhubaneswar: The water level of Hirakud Dam was 620.17 ft by 6 am on Sunday against the maximum level of 630 ft, according to information.
Floodwater was being released through five gates, three on the left and two on the right side of the dam, now. While 1,05,844 cubic metre per second (cusec) was entering into the reservoir, 94,797 cusec water was being released through five gates, said reports.
In view of decrease in release of floodwater, the fear of floods in lower parts of the Mahanadi River has been diminished. The water released through 20 gates on Friday and through 10 gates on Saturday is likely to pass to the sea before occurrence of further rains.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre Bhuaneswar has predicted intense rainfalls in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh and Deogarh districts.
